Integrating Teaching-Learning and Digital Education: A Study of Selected Higher Education Institutions in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh

This project, headed by Dr Sayantan Mandal, is funded by IIT Jammu.

It is the first large-scale empirical longitudinal study conducted in multiple institutions of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh UTs. It employs a mixed-methods approach to investigate the integration of digital technologies with traditional teaching and learning methods in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) of these regions.

This project aims to identify empirically supported strategies for incorporating digital technologies into the classroom and recommend evidence-based policy briefs. Additionally, the project seeks to explore innovative teaching approaches and ensure equitable access to high-quality higher education for all individuals, taking into account the distinct characteristics of the region, as well as the socio-economic, educational, and other diversities among learners and educators.

The primary aims of this study encompass familiarizing oneself with current teaching and learning methodologies, examining obstacles related to academic and socio-economic aspects, identifying regional and institutional factors that impact the incorporation of online education alongside traditional classroom instruction, investigating disparities and difficulties within and between institutions when integrating online education with in-person teaching and offering evidence-based recommendations for suitable frameworks that combine classroom and online teaching and learning in a context-specific manner.

The primary goal is to make a significant contribution to the growth of IIT Jammu as a central institution in facilitating the integration of teaching, learning, and digital technologies for higher education institutions in the northernmost region of India. This will be achieved by enhancing teaching and learning through rigorous research and policy interventions based on dynamic evidence.
