The Department of Humanities & Social Sciences, IIT Jammu, is committed to suturing STEM (Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Math) into the fabric of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. This endeavour is being realised through an enmeshed network of cross and trans-disciplinary courses, projects, and collaborations. The department encompasses the disciplines such as English, Economics, Sociology, Philosophy, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Culture and Polity, and other such prospective subjects in the wide gamut of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The mission and goals of the Humanities and Social Sciences are consistent with those of IIT Jammu in that we foster innovative learning experiences that will enable our students/graduates to develop broad, tolerant, and cosmopolitan perspectives so that they will be better prepared to function in a diverse, demanding, and global society.

HSS Department at IIT Jammu has its roots firmly grounded in the soil of emancipatory learning and is on its journey to reach out for the sun. It hopes to grow its budding branches into a fruit-laden tree in the luminescence of the future.
