IIT Jammu Organizes a Field Visit to Jambu Zoo

Jammu, [16–2-2024] – The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu, in an initiative by the Centre for Essential Skills and HSS, has conducted a comprehensive field visit to Jambu Zoo for its students. This educational excursion, meticulously organized by Dr. Quleen Kaur Bijral, Coordinator of Zuban-e-Kalam, HSS, and Dr. Amitash Ojha from the Center for Essential Skills, is designed to furnish students with a profound understanding of the delicate equilibrium that exists between flora, fauna, and human societies. The initiative aims to foster an ecocritical appreciation of wildlife, encouraging students to look beyond textbooks and understand the intricate connections in natural habitats. This field visit is part of a broader educational endeavor that includes heritage tours to both celebrated and lesser-known sites within Jammu and Kashmir, promoting the region's rich cultural diversity.

Students gained firsthand experience of ecosystem dynamics, enhancing their understanding of ecological balance and biodiversity. By seeing animals in real life, students develop empathy towards living creatures and a sense of responsibility towards environmental conservation and sustainable living practices.The trip offered a unique opportunity for students to develop essential skills such as observation, analysis, and empathy towards living organisms and their habitats. This initiative not only highlights IIT Jammu's commitment to holistic education but also underscores the importance of integrating practical experiences with academic learning.

The visit allowed students to make connections across various disciplines, including biology, environmental science, geography, and even ethics. By engaging with the environment around them, students are better prepared to become informed, responsible citizens who value and work towards a sustainable future. The tour included discussions on conservation efforts, the impact of human activities on wildlife, and the importance of protected areas like zoos in preserving endangered species.

The event saw the coordinated efforts of Dr. Nilesh, Assistant Librarian, Mr. Vishal, Student Welfare Office, alongside Sushmendera Kuril, Gaurav Jagarabad, and Subh Agarwal of IIT Jammu, ensuring a seamless and enriching experience for the participants
