Helmed by Prof. Bijoy H. Boruah, Senior Faculty, HSS, the Department weekly gathers for seminar sessions on subjects and questions of “current importance and that of enduring interest” (Boruah, email). Since November 2021, Wednesday afternoons have been reserved for faculty and scholars to come together for discussions and deliberations that span the breadth of humanities and social sciences, including reflective understandings of contemporary technoscientific progress and its influence on humanity.
The broad format of these sessions provides the Speaker of the week with 35 to 45 mins of presentation time. The designated Principal Commentator responds to the presentation in 10 minutes, after which the presentation is open for all to have spirited discussions and critical insights that speculate, build on, and branch out, probing and crossing disciplinary boundaries. Apart from the Department’s faculty and research scholars, these discussions have frequently been led by distinguished academicians from and outside IIT Jammu.
