Inauguration of Campus & Saptarshi Multidisciplinary Research Centre
Shri Amit Shah, Honourable Minister of Home Affairs & Minister of Cooperation visited the IIT Jammu campus on October 24th to lay the foundation stone of the massive Phase 1C of the campus. The Hon'ble Minister also inaugurated Saptarshi Multidisciplinary Research Centre and Phase 1A & 1B of the existing campus in the presence of Hon’ble Minister of Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha and Dr. Jitendra Singh(Hon’ble Union Minister of State, PMO).
The newly inaugurated Phase 1A and 1B was planned as a self-contained transit campus which could cater to the needs of 840 students at IIT Jammu for initial few years. The area of Phase 1A is around 22,200 sq.m. which includes 19 ClassRooms, 24 Laboratories, 89 Faculty Offices, Hostels capacity of 490 Boys and 112 Girls, 2 Dining Halls, Medical Unit, Open Air Theater, Sports Facilities, Cafeteria, Admin Spaces, Services Buildings, etc. The area of Phase 1B is around 13,800 sq.m. which includes One Hostel for 236 Boys, One Dining Hall, Gymnasium, Laundromats, Indoor Games Facilities, 48 Staff Houses, 27 Studio Apartments for Transit Accommodation. These developments are serviced by uninterrupted Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the campus.
Considering the growth plan of IIT Jammu as per Cabinet approved sanction (01 st November 2017), the newly laid Phase 1C has been planned to cater to the needs of around 1500 resident students on campus. Once completed in 2023, Phase 1C would add additional plinth area of around 1,00,000 sqm more built-up area and enhance majorly teaching, learning and research facilities at IIT Jammu. The newly inaugurated, Saptarshi Multidisciplinary Research Centre at IIT Jammu is set to become a unicorn of technological excellence in North India with the commissioning of brand new NMRI spectrometer, SCXRD, HRMS, XPS, and UV-VIS-NIR, powder x-ray diffractometer (PXRD) and Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR).
