Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is a flagship program of the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. It aims to connect the Higher Education Institutions with a set of at least five villages or local communities to address development challenges through appropriate technologies so that these institutions can contribute to the economic and social betterment of these village communities using their knowledge base.

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is inspired by the vision of transformational change in rural development processes by leveraging the Higher Education Institutions to help build the architecture of an inclusive India.

IIT Jammu serves as Regional Coordinating Institution (RCI) as well as Participating Institution (PI) since 2019.
As Regional Coordinating Institution (RCI), IIT Jammu act as nodal center to promote & facilitate UBA network in Jammu Province and Ladakh UT. With this aim, IIT Jammu handholds the Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) of the region in becoming a part of the UBA network and creating the local connect with their respective rural cluster. Presently our activities are centered to address the following:

1. Mapping the provision of basic amenities like food, water, shelter, clothing, transportation, telecommunication, health, among other.
2. Mapping the reach of various Government schemes among the local inhabitants in the rural communities
3. Providing skill development programs to rural community members of various education levels and across all age groups and gender
4. Enabling livelihood of artisans
