Programs of Study Offered by the Department
In this endeavour, we offer various undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and are actively contemplating offering more diverse programs to cater to emerging educational trends. Some of the programs we are currently offering are:

B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering
The department offers a B.Tech. program in Mechanical Engineering. This program commenced in 2016 with a sanctioned strength of 30 students, which has now been increased to 40. We offer many different specialization-related courses and minor programs. Beginning from their third year, students work on B.Tech. projects to hone their analytical abilities and acquire practical experience. The curriculum is designed to expose undergraduate students to both theoretical and practical aspects of their chosen discipline.

M.Tech in Thermal and Energy Systems
The M.Tech. programme in Thermal and Energy Systems Engineering started in 2020 and is designed for students with a background related to mechanical engineering. The objective is to provide students with an organized curriculum consisting of courses designed to enhance their capability to analyse and design innovative systems requiring knowledge in thermal and energy sciences. Some of the focus areas include energy conversion systems and their fuels, renewable energy, HVAC, nuclear energy and fluid dynamics. Along with a practical orientation and fundamental knowledge, the students also learn to simulate various fluid, thermal and energy systems using different computational tools; this enhances their skill levels and makes them more industry-ready.

Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering
The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers a terminal degree program, the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), which was launched in 2018. This program is focused on three broad areas of study: manufacturing, design, and thermo-fluid sciences. This program, in which the research scholar’s financial needs are served by means of a stipend, consists of a flexible curriculum of coursework relevant to the area of study and research. These courses are chosen by the student in agreement with the research adviser, followed by a significant emphasis on research culminating in a dissertation. This PhD program is part of our effort to foster a world-class technology and knowledge-driven society by training students who have a desire and orientation towards a deeper understanding of scientific phenomena.
