FRRO SOPs (INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IIT JAMMU)
FRRO is a registration process that stands for Foreigners Regional Registration Office. It is an Indian government agency that deals with the registration of foreign nationals visiting India for a long duration. Link of FRRO for Jammu, J&K is https://www.jkpolice.gov.in/foreigners -Registration. e-FRRO involves completely online application submission and document upload, for which no facilitation is required by any intermediary / agents etc. The foreign nationals are required to apply online by themselves.
The Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for FRRO registration are as follows:
The first step is to apply online for FRRO registration on the official website. The online application form requires:
- Personal details
- Passport information
- Visa details, and
- Other relevant information like the reason for visiting India.
After filling out the online form, the applicant needs to upload the required documents (the maximum size of each PDF should be 1 MB.). These documents include:
- Visa
- Residential address proof in India, and
- G-form – For those who come for research work at IIT Jammu
- Synopsis of the research work signed by the guide at IIT Jammu
- Progress report signed by the Assistant Registrar (Acad) or the Dean of Academic Courses.
- Scholarship letter/ Proof of financial assistance if any
- Bank passbook copy

- Center head within frame and present full head from top of hair to bottom of chin

After submitting the online application and uploading the documents, the applicant needs to schedule an appointment with the FRRO office. The appointment can be scheduled online, and the applicant needs to select a suitable date and time for the appointment.
On the day of the appointment, the applicant needs to visit the FRRO office in person. You need to bring the original documents along with the photocopies of the same. You will then be interviewed by an immigration officer who will verify the information provided in the application form and documents.

At the FRRO office, the applicant's biometric details such as fingerprints and photograph will be taken for verification purposes.
The FRRO officials will verify the documents uploaded by the applicant online and the original documents brought by the applicant in person.
Once the verification process is complete, the FRRO officials will issue a registration certificate to the applicant. The registration certificate is an important document that foreign nationals must carry with them at all times while in India.
- The Jammu FRRO is located at the Deputy Commissioner's office in Jammu (PVJF+Q7C, Wazarat Road, Peer Kho, Pakki Dhaki, Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir 180001).
- International Students visiting IIT Jammu on a long-term basis (more than 180 days) are required to register with the FRRO within 14 days of arrival.
- International Students visiting IIT Jammu for short-term purposes (less than 180 days) are not required to register with the FRRO unless they are staying in a restricted or protected area.
- Carry your wallet in an inside jacket pocket or side pocket of the trousers, never in the rear pocket.
- Safeguard your valuables and important papers, such as jewellery and passports. Never leave these items unattended in your room or carry large sums of cash on your person.
- Be wary of unexpected persons coming to interact with you.
- Never leave luggage or other expensive items, unattended at airports, Bus Stands or taxi stands.
- In case of any theft/loss, immediately contact the nearest Police Station.
- Applicants are advised not to submit multiple applications once they have received Application ID on successful submission of application
