3-Day National Conference

HSS IIT Jammu Conducts 3-Day National Conference
HSS IIT Jammu organized a 3-day National Conference on “Conflict and the Everyday: Narratives from the Personal and Public Realms” from 21st- 23rd February 2020.

Prof Shiv VisvanathanProfessor & Vice Dean and Executive Director, Centre for the Study of Science, Society, and Sustainability, OP Jindal Global University, Sonepat was the Keynote Speaker of the conference. The plenary session of the conference had eminent speakers Dr KB Veio Pou, Prof. Meera Velayudhan,Dr. Amitabh Vikram Dwivedi, Adhik Kadam, who disseminated their knowledge to the participants for a better understanding of the notions of conflict and the everyday.

Dr. Amitash Ojha, H.O.D. HSS, welcomed the esteemed dignitaries, faculties, participants while briefing on the significance of the Conference.
Dr. Quleen Kaur Bijral, Convener, addressed the attempt of re-thinking of the term ‘Conflict’ by listening to the ‘insignificant’ and ‘everyday’ narratives.

On the second day, there was a theatrical performance by Natrang, which is a Theatre & Performing Arts Institution of Jammu. Under the direction Shri Balwant Thakur, Padmashree awarded theatre director, two plays or Nukkad Drama were enacted:

'Girgit' in Hindi based on a Russian short story by Anton Chekhov. A hard-hitting satire on the present socio-political system.
'Gatt' a multilingual play based on an Urdu story by Kishan Chander called ‘Khadda’. The play reflects the plight of the poor masses who continue to suffer for want of help from those at the helm of affairs.

The third day concluded with a valedictory session wherein Prof. Ashoke Sarkar distributed the best paper presenter award. The session was anchored by Dr. Suchismita Roy, co-convener of the conference in coordination with Dr. Sayantan Mandal.
